Hard Word Search
Looking for a word search that actually makes you work? Hard mode uses a 12×12 grid with twelve words, and they may run in any of the eight directions – across, down, diagonally and backwards. Filler letters are drawn from the same letters as the hidden words, so the grid is full of false starts.
Every puzzle is generated fresh, so you can keep playing for as long as you like and chase a faster best time.
What makes it hard
- Bigger grid: 144 letters instead of 100.
- All eight directions, including right-to-left and bottom-to-top.
- Decoy letters that match the hidden words' letters, so partial matches appear everywhere.
- More words that share letters and cross each other.
Strategy for hard word searches
Pick the word with the rarest letter pair and hunt for that pair in both orders. Once you find a match, check all eight neighbours of each letter instead of reading whole rows. Experienced solvers also sweep the grid row by row looking for any word's last two letters, which catches the backwards words that most players miss.
