Daily Word Search – Free Online Puzzle
About Daily Word Search
Word Find Daily is a free browser puzzle where you hunt for hidden words in a letter grid. Each calendar day brings one shared themed puzzle, and you can also generate unlimited practice grids in Easy, Normal or Hard. Nothing to install: open the page, start finding words, and keep a streak if you come back tomorrow.
The featured daily puzzle is built from the date, so everyone who visits on the same day sees the same letters and the same word list. That makes friendly comparisons easy—finish, copy a spoiler-free summary, and paste it into a chat. Solve on consecutive days and your streak grows. Miss a day and the streak resets, which keeps the habit light but motivating.
When you want more than one grid, switch into unlimited play. Easy uses an 8×8 board with words that only run across or down—ideal for kids or a calm warm-up. Normal expands to 10×10 and adds forward diagonals. Hard grows to 12×12 with twelve words that may run in any of eight directions, including backwards, closer to a classic newspaper word hunt.
Themes rotate through everyday topics: food, animals, travel, school subjects, seasons and more. Because the word list sits beside the grid, you always know what to look for; the challenge is spotting each entry among the filler letters. Words sit in straight lines, may cross and share letters, and never bend around corners.
We designed the experience for phones, tablets and desktops. Drag with a finger or mouse, or use arrow keys and Space or Enter on a keyboard. Hints are available if you get stuck, but each hint adds a small time penalty so a clean solve still feels better. Personal bests and your streak stay in your browser's local storage—nothing is uploaded to a server.
If you enjoy letter puzzles, this site also collects related free word games you can open after you finish today's grid: connect-style crosswords, anagram challenges, hangman-style guessing and other quick vocabulary warm-ups. Use the daily puzzle as a short ritual, then wander into practice modes or the wider collection whenever you have a spare minute.

How to Play Daily Word Search
- Read today's theme and the word list under the grid.
- Find a word, then press its first letter and drag to its last letter. On a keyboard, move with the arrow keys and confirm the start and end with Space or Enter.
- Release to lock the word—it highlights in color and is crossed off the list.
- Clear every word to stop the clock, then copy your result if you want to share it.
- Switch to Easy, Normal or Hard whenever you want unlimited practice grids beyond the daily puzzle.
How the Daily Puzzle Works
Each morning the site builds one themed word-find grid from the calendar date. Friends, classmates or coworkers who play the same day get an identical board, which makes comparing times fair.
The standard daily size is a 10×10 field with ten words. Directions match the Normal practice mode: across, down and both forward diagonals, without backwards entries, so the puzzle stays approachable while still rewarding careful scanning.
After you finish, you can copy a short result string that shares your time and streak without revealing the words—handy for group chats or classrooms.
Rules for Every Grid
- Every listed word appears exactly once and always in a straight line.
- Easy: left-to-right or top-to-bottom only. Normal and the daily puzzle: also diagonally forward. Hard: any of the eight directions, including reverse.
- Words may cross and share letters; a highlighted letter can still belong to another entry.
- Leftover letters are random filler and are not meant to spell extra words.
Scoring, Hints and Streaks
Your score is simply the elapsed time from when the grid appears until the last word is found. Faster is better.
A hint briefly flashes the first letter of a remaining word and adds fifteen seconds, so use hints sparingly if you care about the clock.
Best times per mode and your consecutive-day streak are stored only on your device. Clearing site data will reset them.
Tips for Faster Solves
Unusual letters (Q, Z, X, J, K) shrink the search space quickly. Scan for those before grinding through common vowels.
Search for the first two letters of a target together rather than a single letter—pairs appear far less often.
Longer words are usually easier to spot than three-letter ones; clearing them early also opens crossings that reveal shorter entries.
On Hard grids, remember that reverse and diagonal-backwards paths are allowed—flip your mental scan direction when a word refuses to appear.
Who This Puzzle Is For
Students can use Easy mode as a gentle vocabulary warm-up. Adults often prefer the daily challenge as a five-minute brain break between meetings.
Teachers and parents sometimes share the same daily board with a group so everyone discusses the theme afterward. Because results omit the word list, spoilers stay under control.
There is no account wall and no download. If your browser runs modern JavaScript, you can play.
Daily Word Search Tips & Tricks
- Start with the longest word on the list—it usually has the fewest possible placements.
- Mark crossings mentally: once two words share a letter, nearby entries often fall into place.
- If you are stuck, look away for ten seconds; fresh eyes catch shapes you skimmed past.
- Practice on Easy before Hard if you are teaching a child the idea of letter lines.
- Come back tomorrow for a new shared puzzle and keep the streak alive.
- Mute distractions: a quiet minute is enough for most Normal grids.
